David Trant

David Trant was born in Toronto and studied Art History at York University before graduating from the Ontario College of Art’s fine Arts, Painting and Drawing Program in 1991. Turning to carving, and influenced by his family’s East Coast roots, David has developed work that balances Folk carving with contemporary, whimsical style. He uses power tools in his work and finds this allows him to work quickly in a wide variety of wood from pine and poplar to hardwoods such as oak, maple and apple.
