Dawn Petticrew

Petticrew’s interests in highly ornate patterns have lead her to 20th century textile prints. Similar to the contrasting design used in Japanese Oribe ware, she utilises the contrasting textile patterns in an asymmetrical placement. In order to create these highly ornate surfaces, colour and line play a very important role. She utilises the early 14th century Spanish technique of Quarda Seca (dry line) which allows for the separation of the glazes. By using low fire earthenware she is able to achieve her desired colour palette, derived from popular colours of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s.
