Elizabeth Piccolo

Piccolo’s background as an illustrator and trained textile artist is reflected in her paintings and wearable art. Her specialties are indigo and Japanese shibori resist dyeing on silk. What makes these techniques endlessly fascinating for her is the tension between control and chance inherent in the processes of shaping, folding, stitching, binding and securing the cloth and then immersing it in a dye vat to create delicate, organic designs open to the possibility of the unexepected. Her passion for shibori was further fueled by an apprenticeship with a Japanese silk artist in Victoria, BC. Elizabeth aims to interpret these traditions within a contemporary context and bring these textile arts to new audiences.
