John is a woodworker whose creative and holistic approach to furniture design often combines exotic veneers with unusual inlays such as purfling, metal, glass, stone and mother-of-pearl. His passion for woodworking has been life-long, and many of his skills are either self-taught or have been learned from his father Johan, who was himself trained a master craftsman in his native Holland. John's wood creations also reflect his deep commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability, most notably through his use of wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). He tries to keep his designs simple, so that the true statement of the piece can be made by the wood itself.
