“Modern Stump work” is the term Tracey uses to describe her textile still life. Like traditional stump work, it is a raised stitchery technique that achieves three-dimensional effects by padding and applying detached motifs to a background. The difference is that she applies modern tools to the 16th century art form, combining centuries-old hand-embroidery techniques with machine stitching to create richly textured, dimensional still life. Tracey's technique has developed organically, through continuous experimentation.
